They started off around 9PM with Open Fire and tore through Mean Streak. Lipstick and Leather, Don’t Stop Runnin’ and many other great tunes and fan favorites. Mean Streak, Dirty Girl, Summertime Blues and Forever were among the best in the set. At 60 years old, Dave Meniketti rocks twice as hard as people a third his age. Mike Vanderhule rocked a pretty new drum set and, as usual, Brad Lang (bass) and John Nymann (guitar) did an awesome job. They’re a solid band that always seems to enjoy themselves onstage.
Dave Meniketti and Y&T have been rocking for over 40 years. Year after year, the band returns to the Canyon Club to perform as much music as they are permitted to play at the venue. They last had performed here 364 days ago, so technically, they’re doing shows here twice a year. The consensus from everyone in attendance is that this band gets better with every performance. As expected, this show was spectacular and the crowd loved every minute of it.
One of the best things about Y&T is the relationship they have with their adoring fans. They hang out with the people in the venue long after the conclusion of the show taking pictures, discussing past shows, and signing whatever comes their way. Many repeat Monsters of Rock cruisers/ fans make some serious effort to come out for their show. It’s really nice to see a band so appreciative for their fans. Great musicians and totally cool people. That’s the way concerts should be. Sporting a That Metal Show T-shirt, fellow rocker Simon Wright was in attendance as were several other rock stars and friends (last pics below).
Former Y&T member Jimmy DeGrasso will be playing at The Canyon Club next Thursday, as the Black Star Riders open for Skid Row!! That will be another great show!
