By STACI AMEND
“Who loves F-ing thrash metal?” yelled Scott Ian to the wild crowd of 880 at the historic Arcada Theater in St. Charles IL.
The devoted fans of Anthrax, who holds a special place in Chicago’s heart for their over 35 year career sure do! The band are out in support of their 2016 release “For All Kings” and getting the best reviews of its career, stopped off for a sort of one off in St. Charles Friday night to a sold out show, and did not disappoint. Veterans Scott Ian (guitar),Frankie Bello (Bass), Charlie Benante (Drums), JoeyBelladonna (Vocals), as well as newest member guitarist Jonathan Donias proceeded to bring the house down. Kicking off a nearly 1hour 45 minute set with such hits as “Among the Living” and straight into “Caught in a Mosh”. To see Anthrax in such an intimate setting is a real treat, they are part of thrash metals big 4 and are usually on the bill of much bigger venues and festivals around Europe. Arcada Theater which is over 90 years old and has an art deco 1920s look as well located on the famed Fox River is one of the best venues in the west suburbs host and owner Ron Onesti , Onesti Entertainment who has booked some of the most eclectic shows around is truly one of the greatest hosts in town, the sound is fantastic the theater is decorated with pictures of all who have played there as well as vintage album covers and instruments. Dressing rooms have vintage fixtures made from guitars and drum gear giving artists a feeling of a nostalgic rock and roll atmosphere. There was no doubt that a head banging time was had by all. Anthrax had a blistering set keeping the crowd in rocking frenzied and wanting more.
